Trying Medium Format

I recently found a medium format film camera at an antique store, an Agfa Isollete. The focus on the lens was stuck to infinity, but the apeture and shutter worked correctly, so I took the chance to experiment a little with the 6×6 format for the first time. Because of the focus problem, I closed the apeture down as much as I could, and tried a couple of rolls of Fomapan, one in 200 speed, and one in 400.

The take up spool that was in the camera wouldn’t turn with the film winder, so I ended up having to re-spool the first roll of film onto that old take up spool so I could use a new spool as the take up. I ended up doing this in my not quite light tight laundry rool, so there where a few light leaks and scratchs. It didn’t occur to me at the time to use my changing bag… With these problems resolved, the second roll went much better.

I really enjoy the final two shots, a dust storm was rolling in as I was out with the camera, the change in texture makes for a fascinating photo. I like shooting with the square format, but I don’t think I’ll use this particular camera much more. With the locked focus it’s kind of like a fancy Holga, but the limitation makes it difficult to use in a lot of situations.
